First Time College Students - Frequently Asked Questions about Admissions

Applying to college can be an exciting time in the life of a high school senior. At Colorado Technical University, we strive to make the application and enrollment process for students interested in our degree programs as streamlined as possible.

As you prepare to apply for admission to CTU, you will most certainly have questions about the process, our school, classes or degree programs. A few of the most common questions posed by first time college students appear on this page.

If you do not find the answers to any questions you may have about our university, we encourage you to contact us for additional information at any time.

Does CTU support transfer of credit from other colleges or universities?

Colorado Technical University supports the philosophy that related courses, demonstrated proficiencies and life experience knowledge may be used to satisfy some course credit requirements.

Credit granted for past experience, training, certification and testing may reduce the time required to obtain a degree. Students and agencies providing financial assistance (if required) are notified if a shorter program is possible. Up to two related Master's level courses may be transferred.

Upon receipt of all official documents and transcripts, all college-level course work from accredited colleges or universities is evaluated for transfer credit by an Academic Dean. Courses from non-accredited institutions or from vocational institutions are reviewed on a course-by course basis.

Transfer credit is not awarded for courses that are numbered below 100, remedial by definition of the transferring institution or equivalent to remedial courses taught at CTU.

Transcripts and records presented for evaluation become part of students' permanent records. Because of the high standards and specialized nature of the programs offered at CTU, any additional transfer of credit must be pre-approved once the initial transfer of credits is completed.

What is the admissions process?

All students must complete a university application, submit a non-refundable application fee, and participate in an interview with an Admissions Representative. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the CTU campus that interests them and speak with an Admissions Representative to learn about our application process and about the academic programs best suited to their needs.

Military students and international students may have additional steps or requirements to consider when applying for admission.

It is possible for students living far away from one of our campuses to complete an online application for admission.

How long does the admissions process take?

After completing an application to the university, most students receive an admissions decision within one week.
