Bruce Harmon, Ph.D. Promoted to Colorado Technical University

Colorado Springs, Colo., July 7, 2009 – Colorado Technical University (CTU) announced the promotion of Bruce Harmon, Ph.D. to dean of doctoral computer science at the CTU Institute for Advanced Studies. In addition to this position, Harmon will maintain his current role as the dean of engineering and computer science at the CTU campus in Colorado Springs.
In his newest role, Harmon will be responsible for directing the doctoral computer science curriculum, supervising professors and managing students who are receiving doctoral degrees in computer science.
“Bruce’s skills as an educator combined with his proven business experience with leading engineering and computer science firms makes him highly qualified for this important position and helping our students gain a career-oriented education,” said Dr. Wallace Pond, the chief executive officer of CTU. “Bruce will play an important role in expanding and enhancing the CTU doctorate computer science program to benefit our students who take our courses through our campuses and online.”
Prior to joining CTU, Harmon gained extensive engineering and management experience at companies across the U.S., including General Electric Nuclear Energy, KLA-Tencor, Rudolph Technologies, Hewlett Packard, Synopsys, Inc., SYSCON Corp. and Lockheed Martin. A retired Lt. Col. in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, Harmon also served as an instructor of aeronautics for the U.S. Air Force Academy for two years. Additionally, Harmon spent two years as a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at CTU, where he created and taught four systems engineering courses for engineering master’s candidates.
Harmon received his doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado in 1999 after Hewlett Packard awarded him an unprecedented one-year fellowship to complete his Ph.D. He holds a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University and a bachelor’s of science in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Additionally, Harmon is an active member of several professional organizations including Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), for which he serves as the vice chair of the Pike’s Peak section.
