Starting in 1978, family businesses changed significantly as a result of Chinese economic reform from a planned to a market economy. Opportunities now exist for Western companies to conduct business directly with these family businesses with significant favorable profitability prospects for all parties concerned.

City growth, community oriented policing and a social capital model

Community oriented policing has been acknowledged by sociologists, urban planners and law enforcement practitioners as a key tool for establishing a police-community partnership to aid in identifying, prioritizing, and resolving crime problems, and relies heavily upon the modern concept of social capital. Social capital involves personal relations and networks of relations as being important for generating trust and enforcing norms (Coleman, 1988 & 1990).
